Medical Disclaimer

The Steady Split provides general educational information about running, training load, recovery, and common symptoms. Nothing on this site is medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, or a substitute for care from a qualified healthcare professional.

Individual risk varies

Symptoms with similar names can have different causes. Training history, medications, age, nutrition, prior injury, pregnancy, and health conditions can materially change an appropriate decision.

Urgent symptoms

Seek urgent care for severe or rapidly worsening pain, major trauma, inability to bear weight, a hot swollen joint with fever, chest pain, fainting, unusual shortness of breath, sudden weakness or numbness, or any symptom that feels like an emergency.

Stop when safety changes

Stop running when pain changes your gait, becomes sharp or progressive, or is accompanied by a red flag described in an article. When in doubt, choose an in-person assessment over another self-test.
